For some villages there exist smaller or larger chronicles. Often it was the teacher or someone who had been living in the village, who started to write about the history of the place and the people living there.
These chronicles usually mention place names and family names which are still of interest for us today.
However some of these chronicles had been written a long time after the author had left Poland and they were often written out of memory. So some of the information might not be as accurate as it should be.
Between 1959 and 1972 the German research institute "Ostdeutsche Forschungsstelle im Lande Nordrhein-Westfalen" published three Village Chronicles.
