Many of the Polish villages with ethnic German inhabitants had their own cemeteries. Many of them are hard to find today. If they are not mentioned in literature they will fall into oblivion soon. So I have been very surprised and enthusiastic when Maciek Barciński sent me pictures of a cemetery hidden in the woods near Białobrzegi. His grandfather once had shown the place to him and asked him to always remember where it is ... This initiated in 2005 our Polish-German Cmentarze Project (cmentarze = cemeteries) with the objective to provide first steps of an inventory for these seemingly abandoned cemeteries. Meanwhile many People have contributed to the project in different ways. For some of the cemeteries we found existing documentation or literature. Read more about these Cmentarze Sources. Over the last years different Cmentarze Methods had been used to find, identify and document the cemeteries.
