The cemetery of Płock

The Lutheran cemetery of Płock is located in the western part of the city above the bank of the Vistula.

The cemetery is a wonderful quiet place within the city. The old trees and the many old gravestones and monuments grant a meditative atmosphere.

Some of the monuments show some aesthetic or artistic qualities. But what moves me most is the fact that the inscriptions testify to the multicultural history of Płock. There are Polish, German, Russian, French and Italian inscriptions.

There are plans that this cemetery should be brought out of it's sleepy dreams. The cemetery is to be turned into a municipal cemetery. Part of the old gravestones will be removed to give room for new burial sites.

The Płock cemetery has been the main part of the documentation EZR Płock, 87/88: (Ewidencja Zabytków Ruchomych). We show here the atmosphere of the cemetery today and the pictures and inscriptions that were collected in 1987.
