The pictures shown here were taken in the ethnographic park in Toruń. Besides beautifully restored houses, there is a small collection of very old grave stones which come from various cemeteries in the Vistula valley. Not only the commonly occurring name Bartel indicates Mennonites. Often the inscription reveals that the deceased had been an elder of the Mennonite church. It appears that many of these stones originate from Mennonite villages near the Vistula north of Kulm (Chelmno). But there is also a grave stele from Słońsk. In fact, it is the grave stone of my great-great-grandfather John Mielke who had died 1862 in Słońsk.
Photos and other contributions for the documentation of this cemetery were provided by: Jutta Dennerlein.
